What is Hatha Yoga

The word ‘yoga’ comes from the Sanskrit language and loosely translates to ‘union’ or ‘oneness’.

Hatha means wilful or forceful. Hatha also translates to ha meaning ‘sun’ the masculine active, expansive and invigorating left-hand side of the body and tha meaning ‘moon’ the feminine, receptive and calming right-hand side of the body.

When we practice Hatha Yoga we aim to balance and unite these two opposite energies within the body, the balance of effort with ease, a practice that is both awakening and calming. Coordinating the breath, mind and body helps promote a feeling of relaxation.
